Balayage for brunettes in Barcelona: shades and prices
- by Equipo Fusion Beauty
Quick answer: at Fusion Beauty (Carrer de Floridablanca 73, Sant Antoni, Barcelona) balayage costs €120–195, or €135–225 with Plex Diamond. On brunettes, chocolate, caramel, honey and bronde shades look the most natural. How light you can go in one session depends on your base, and Adolfo tells you at the consultation.
Your starting point: light brown, dark brown or black
The best balayage for a brunette starts from her own base, not from a trend name. Before talking about caramel or honey, it helps to know which group you are in, because that decides how much lightening is needed and how natural the result will look.
- Light brown: the easiest starting point. It lifts to honey, beige or bronde without much effort, and the contrast with your base stays soft.
- Dark brown: a very common starting point. Caramel and chocolate look effortless; lighter blondes are possible but need more work.
- Black or very dark brown: warm tones such as chocolate, mocha and caramel give shine and movement while keeping the look natural. Going much lighter is a project, not a single appointment.
One more factor matters as much as the base: whether your hair is natural or already coloured. Hair with previous dark dye lightens differently from virgin hair, so tell us about any colour you have had in the last couple of years.
Shades that suit brunettes: chocolate, caramel, honey, bronde and beige
Here is a simple shade ladder, organised by where you start. Moving right means more lightening and more contrast.
| Your base | Subtle | Medium | Brighter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light brown | Honey | Beige or bronde | Creamy beige blonde |
| Dark brown | Chocolate | Caramel | Honey or bronde |
| Black or very dark brown | Chocolate or mocha | Caramel | Bronde, which may need more than one session |
Warm or cool? If you tan easily and gold jewellery suits you, caramel and honey usually flatter. If silver suits you better, beige and cooler bronde tones tend to look more balanced. A reference photo helps a lot, ideally of someone with a similar base to yours.
How much to lighten in one session (and why it can take two)
This is the question we hear most from brunettes, and the honest answer is that it depends on your hair. Natural dark hair has warm pigment underneath; as it lightens, it passes through red, orange and gold stages before it reaches a soft blonde. How far a strand can go in one appointment while keeping it soft and shiny depends on your base, your hair's condition and any previous colour.
That is why Adolfo, our colour specialist, sets the target at the consultation. If the shade you want is several steps away from your base, he will tell you whether it is realistic in one session or whether it is better to build it over two. Splitting it is not a sales tactic: it usually gives a more even, more natural-looking result.
How to avoid orange
- Choose a target that suits your base. Caramel and honey embrace some warmth, so it looks intentional.
- Lift enough. Orange often appears when dark hair is lightened only part of the way to a cool shade.
- Let the colourist finish the tone during the appointment, so the shade you leave with is the one you agreed.
- At home, use a blue or purple shampoo now and then if your lighter strands start to look warmer than you like.
Balayage, babylights or shatush on dark hair
All three work on brunettes, but they give different results:
- Balayage (€120–195) is painted by hand with a soft transition from the root. It gives natural, sun-kissed light and grows out without a hard line. More on our balayage page.
- Babylights (€85–145) are very fine strands placed from the root. On dark hair they brighten the whole head evenly and also help blend the first greys; see our guide to grey blending in Barcelona and our babylights page.
- Shatush (€165–215) concentrates the light from the mid-lengths to the ends for a very gradual result. It suits long hair and people who want to keep their dark root.

Short hair and bobs
Balayage is not only for long hair. On a bob or a short cut, the placement simply changes: lighter pieces around the face and on the ends, so the cut shows movement instead of a solid dark block. Because there is less hair, short balayage sits at the lower end of our range, which starts at €120. If you are also changing your cut, it makes sense to cut first, so the light is placed where your new shape needs it.
With or without Plex Diamond
Plex Diamond is an additive mixed into the lightener during the service. Many clients with fine or previously coloured hair choose it so their hair feels softer and keeps more shine after lightening. It is optional and has a clear price: balayage with Plex Diamond costs €135–225, compared with €120–195 without it. Adolfo will tell you at the consultation whether it makes sense for your hair.

Home care with Barcelona water and sun
Barcelona has hard tap water and plenty of sun for much of the year, and both can make lightened hair look duller or warmer over time. A few habits help balayage stay bright for longer:
- Use a sulphate-free shampoo and a hydrating mask once or twice a week.
- Use a blue or purple shampoo now and then, not every day, if the lighter pieces turn warm.
- Protect your hair from the sun and from pool or sea water with a cap or a product with UV filter.
- Apply a heat protectant before blow-drying or straightening.
If your hair feels dry, an in-salon treatment such as Salerm 21 hydration (€50) or Moroccanoil Repair (€45) adds softness and shine. See our hair treatments. Balayage grows out gradually with no hard root, and Adolfo will suggest when to come back based on how your hair grows.

Frequently asked questions
Which balayage suits dark brown hair best?
On dark brown hair, chocolate and caramel look the most natural, and honey or bronde work if you want more brightness. The right shade depends on your skin tone and how much contrast you like.
Can I go from brunette to blonde in one session?
It depends on your base, your hair's condition and any previous colour. Adolfo tells you at the consultation whether your target is realistic in one session or better built over two.
Does balayage turn orange on brunettes?
It can if dark hair is lightened only part of the way. Choosing a shade that suits your base, lifting enough and finishing the tone in the salon keeps the result in the shade you agreed.
Balayage or babylights for dark hair?
Balayage gives hand-painted, sun-kissed light and a soft grow-out. Babylights brighten the whole head more evenly and blend greys better. Balayage costs €120–195 and babylights €85–145.
How much does balayage for brunettes cost in Barcelona?
At Fusion Beauty, balayage costs €120–195 depending on length, or €135–225 with Plex Diamond. We confirm the price at the consultation before we start.
Can you do balayage on short hair?
Yes. On a bob or short cut, the light is placed around the face and on the ends so the cut shows movement. Short hair sits at the lower end of the €120–195 range.
What is Plex Diamond?
It is an optional additive mixed into the lightener during the service, chosen so the hair feels softer and keeps more shine after lightening. Balayage with Plex Diamond costs €135–225.
